Tonya Pitts, the award winning sommelier, inspires us with her unique perspectives about everything in wine. Attending many restaurant family meals, Tonya began her journey in wine by picking up a beautiful red blend to observe the swirl and the smell. Ever since, the belief in enhancing the flavour profiles of food using wine was sparked. She claims the science behind food and wine pairings lay in the balance between ingredients, and we couldn’t agree more.

Her favourites include happy bubbles and whites, yet warmer days call for the refreshing reds to be pulled out of the fridge. One of her favourite blends is Tessier 2022 Soul Love, four varieties including skin-contact Riesling, Mourtaou, Négrette and Merlot. Pairing perfectly with picnic-themed foods, the enticing blend of white and red grapes creates an outstanding medley of flavours. Tonya advises you to pay attention to what you smell and taste. Your sensory memory is what is helping to guide your palate. You know more than what you think you do.

Our founder Christy Serrato first met Tonya Pitts through the Bâtonnage Forum. On a mission to make the industry more inclusive and collaborative, Christy found mentorship with “women in wine” leaders, like Tonya, who are stirring up conversations about equality and turning them into actions that create equity.
